This winter, Doc Films presents a Werner Herzog retrospective series titled “CONQUISTADOR OF THE USELESS: THE FILMS OF WERNER HERZOG,” screening Wednesdays at 7PM and co-sponsored by the Department of Germanic Studies.
A man that prefers novels to films and wuxia to Godard, Herzog remains one of the most unique and strange people to touch a movie camera. At its core, his filmography is concerned with the philosophical implications of human civilization reacting against, yet still belonging to, a violent, entropic, and uncaring universe. This series attempts to analyze Herzog's thesis about human nature by covering both types of Herzog’s films: fictional narratives and documentary work.
